Pauline Hess, 101, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Millers Merry Manor in Hartford City.

The daughter of Lloyd and Clara (Merkey) Gourley, Pauline was born on January 10, 1917 in Wells County, Indiana. She graduated from Eaton High School and married John Hess on February 5, 1937. Together they would raise their three children in Eaton.

Pauline was a long-time member of the Eaton United Methodist Church, was an Eaton War Mother, lifetime member of Eastern Star #522, the Warner Gear Sympathy Club Auxiliary and worked for 17 years at the Eaton Post Office.

Surviving family include two daughters; Sherry Murray and Merry Bee Adams; daughter-in-law, Sharon Hess; two sisters: Joyce Rogers and Barbara Martin (Ed); eight grandchildren: Tony Murray (Erica), Melissa Lane (Ken), Krystal Ruby, Kim Wagoner, David Adams (Rhonda), Robyn Hunt (Tony), Jason Adams (Tammy) and Mandy Redden (Rich); 20 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband John, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Lee Hess; siblings: Louise Johnson, Mary Johnson, Harold, Donald, Merrill, Murrell, Norman, Wendell and Lawrence Gourley and three grandchildren: Mark Murray, Matthew Murray and Jerry Hess II.

Funeral services for Pauline will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 24th, 2018 at Pitman-Richman Funeral Home, 200 S. Hartford St., Eaton with Pastor Roger Spitler officiating. Private burial will take place at Gardens of Memory, Muncie.

Visitation for family and friends will be prior to services from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of the donor’s choice.
